There are several things that could be causing it to be unable to read the chip, all I can suggest is to double check all the wiring.

I use the same PSU, and all I get is “No EEPROM/flash device found”. I’m not sure if that’s due to PSU or I messed up somewhere.

You shouldn’t use any 3.3V from the Bus Pirate and I do not think there would be any issues with not using the redundant ground from the PSU to the Bus Pirate (I am not 100% about this, I am researching this now).

https://libreboot.org/docs/install/x200_external.html

I have bus pirate and YwRobot breadboard PSU. I connected 3.3V from PSU to bios chip, and ground from psu to bus pirate. I have two pins mentioned in the guides, but not explained how to connect – BIOS chip ground and bus pirate (or BBB) 3.3V.

Where do I connect bios ground? What do I connect the 3.3v bus pirate pin to? The instructions for the other connections (MISO, etc) are clear.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Not too worried about someone using the MAC address.
