Compute/Calcul Canada has partnered with Super Micro to offer a High-Performance Computing platform for humanities researchers. Super Micro has kindly donated an HPC system that Compute Canada will make available with support to humanists. See the full call for proposals here. Proposals are due by October 18th, 2011.

Pipelines Inaugural Meeting

The Edmonton Pipelines: Narrating Digital Urbanism project is running a half-day retreat and meeting to bring together projects working on mapping. Researchers came from the University of Alberta, from King’s College and from organizations like the city of Edmonton (which has an Open Data Catalogue.)

Patrick Juola talks on The Tyrannyof Assumptions

CIRCA Scholar Patrick Juoala gave a talk as part of the CIRCA organized Humanities Computing Research Colloquium on “The Tyranny of Assumptions.” He talked about problems with assumptions in textual statistics about what is a “normal” distribution.
