Join us in Brooklyn, NY on Thursday, July 12th and Friday, July 13th. We’ll learn about principles of ethnographic research, some background on cyborgs in anthropology, and how a cyborg anthropology framework can deepen your research practice on the human-technology interface. Plus, we’ll have plenty of hands-on research and making time.

Who We Are
Implosion Labs is a ethnography-driven research and consulting group based in Brooklyn, NY. Founded by anthropologist Danya Glabau, PhD, Implosion Labs delivers insights on customers, products, and innovation strategy in the health care, technology, and food and wellness industries based on rigorous, original research and social science-informed analysis.
Dr. Glabau works with a network of experienced social scientists with expertise in technology, global health, environmental issues, and other sectors.
Danya Glabau, PhD, Founder
Danya Glabau, PhD, is a Medical Anthropologist and an experienced researcher and healthcare entrepreneur. She holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies (STS) from Cornell Unviersity and a B.A. in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. She is active as a leader in the field of Medical Anthropology. Her academic research has focused on how patients navigate complex healthcare and political landscapes to get the care they need to manage chronic illnesses, like food allergies. She has co-founded and advised a number of biotechnology and diagnostics companies, including Allovate Therapeutics, Intrommune Therapeutics, and Immunovent, LLC. She is currently Adjunct Faculty in the Technology, Culture, and Society department at NYU Tandon School of Engineering and a Core Faculty member at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research.
Christy Spackman, PhD
Christy Spackman, PhD, is a sensory anthropologist specializing in the intersection of food production and technology, sensory experience, and health. She holds a PhD in Food Studies from the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University, a M.S. in Food Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a culinary certificate from Kendell College, and a B.S. in Molecular Biology and Chemistry from Brigham Young University. Her academic research has focused on how sensory design in food and beverage impacts consumer understandings of health and also their relationships with institutions ranging from companies to governments. Christy has worked with companies such as Kraft Foods, fine & raw chocolates, University of Chicago Medical Center, and Eau de Paris on product development, nutrition and health research, and marketing and communication as well as offering consulting advice to food start ups. She brings a human-centered and speculative design approach to creating experiential workshops that facilitate collaboration. She is currently the Hixon-Riggs Early Career Fellow in Science, Technology, and Society at Harvey Mudd College (Claremont, CA).
